In the flickering path of the amber sun
2022
In the flickering path of the amber sun (2022) is a thirteen-minute video recording of videos of the land at my home which are projected on the barn stairwell and the interior of the attic roof.
It first begins at the bottom of the barn attic stairwell and across its side walls, and as it vacillates back and forth, it ultimately makes its way up the stairs to the barn attic space, where it continues on the roof interior. The projected videos are shown from the view of a small, low-to-the-ground, low-flying and crawling creature.
The projections depict a range of zoomed-in views of various man-made constructions woven across the land. It shifts from moss and fungus growing on dilapidated cedar fences, to the sinuous landscapes of old uprooted cedar stumps. It sweeps across composite plywood, down to bedrock, and from greenery, to grey, dried-up foliage. Old relics are slowly eroding; overtaken by overgrown shrubs and interspersed with new growth. An old car wreckage is barely discernable. Its orange shell is rusting, as it oxidizes into dust. What was once a strong and curved metal form, is now a deformed and punctured frame, outlined in thin, protruding, and corroded edges. As the video continues, it travels over disintegrating foam, an almost natural-looking but fake grass carpet woven with fluorescent neon green plastic, and close after this, across and over to its natural twin, lime green moss, dotted with orange fungus.
